I went to the showcase of Imagine Cup 2009 today at Sunway Pyramid. It was so interesting that I would break the record of not updating this blog for 2 months, and blog about it!
As for people who do not know what exactly is the Imagine Cup, it is a competition held by Microsoft for young students to have chance showing off their innovative mind and of course, skill! This year the worldwide final will be held at Egypt (That’s why Malaysia Final held at Sunway Pyramid – lol)
I did join this competition but too bad, my team’s proposal didn’t even get approved (T.T we need ideas). But it’s OK, I still enjoy seeing how others are performing. There are 20 teams involved in the showcase and it’s really a good time going booth by booth to have them explaining to you what they have done. I am really amazed to some of their applications especially those who are using silverlight ;). And something I must mention about, is that there is a team titled their project with name “Obama”, it is an application that scans earth map for objects like building or any civilisation sign, and from there, they are able to identify the rural and urban region. Lol, I am attracted to its name actually.

On the same day, the top 3 of Malaysia Final have also presented their idea and application to us on stage. I don’t actually know well about what the first prize winner did since they met some technical problem when they are presenting (video not showing), but I think its great as our government will start using it by this year July (A system for agricultural sector – for farmers). I am then amazed by the user interface designed by 1st runner up team (using Silverlight). Such a wonderful piece of work
The other reason why I was there at the event is to help out Microsoft to spread their new technologies. Lol, quite like a salesman actually. But it is fun as I can have the chance to show students from diferrent uni/college all the cool things they might have never seen it. My job was to show the WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) and Silverlight. I have to demonstrate how they can create some cool 2D/3D UI in few steps.

One of our Microsoft Student Partner is explaining to a guy who skipped/finished his lunch about the new Windows 7 (Everyone are having lunch in ballroom)
The event is fantastic, I get to know many people from many places with different background. From now on, you might be able to see me in most Microsoft event.
